Is Your Hospital A-rated?

Safety grades for South Florida’s hospitals were recently released by the Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit aimed at increasing health system safety, quality and value nationwide. 73% of the 44 hospitals in the tri-county area are A-rated whereas only 31% of hospitals nationwide are A-rated. The report considers medication errors, infections during surgery, issues during recovery such as wounds left open, procedures on hand washing, how well nurses work together and communication policies that encourage staff members to speak up when they see errors. A-rated hospitals in Broward County are Holy Cross Hospital, Broward Health Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic Florida, all five Memorial Regional Hospitals, Florida Medical Center and Westside Regional Medical Center. B-rated hospitals are Broward Health Imperial Point, Broward Health North, Broward Health Coral Springs, University Hospital and Medical Center, and Northwest Medical Center. The only C-rated hospital in Broward County is Plantation General Hospital. For more information see
